The Spark in the Living Room
It all started in my house, specifically in the spaces most of us reserve for relaxation and family time—my living room and home office. These rooms, filled with the usual suspects of sofas and desks, were transformed into a makeshift lab, brimming with wires, keyboards, and endless cups of coffee. It was here, amid the chaos of capacitors and code, that MinakiLabs was born.
John George: The Occasional Sidekick
While it's often just me, handling everything from design to debugging, I do get some help from my good friend, John George. He’s not exactly part of the team, but rather an occasional visitor who drops by to lend a hand. Over the past year, he's come by two or three times, each visit offering just the right tweak or suggestion to push a project forward. While his contributions are infrequent, they're always timely and appreciated.
From Concept to Creation
MinakiLabs is more than just a place; it’s a vision of pushing the boundaries of what we can create at home. The first project that took off from this living room setup was our custom-designed mechanical keyboards. Driven by a passion for both aesthetics and functionality, these aren't just input devices but pieces of art, crafted with personal touches that only a hand-assembled approach can offer.
Challenges and Triumphs
Running a lab from a living room isn’t without its challenges. Space is limited, and every square inch is valuable. There’s also the constant battle to balance home life with the demands of bootstrapping a startup. Yet, these challenges have only fueled my creativity and problem-solving skills. Every obstacle turned into a lesson on how to optimize small spaces with smart storage solutions or multitask effectively.
The Future from Here
Looking ahead, MinakiLabs is set to evolve from its living room origins into something bigger. The plan is to expand our workspace, streamline our production process, and maybe, just maybe, move into a dedicated office. However, no matter where we grow, the heart of MinakiLabs will always be in the home where it began.
