Logins for your app, explained (Keycloak)
Almost every app needs a way for people to sign in: a username, a password, maybe a "sign in with Google" button and a text-message code for extra safety. Building that yourself is surprisingly hard to get right, and getting it wrong is how accounts get broken into. Keycloak is a trusted, free program that handles sign-in for you.
What a login system does
- Sign-in and sign-up. It stores accounts and checks passwords safely.
- One account, many apps. Staff can log in once and reach several of your tools, instead of juggling a password for each.
- Extra verification. It can require a one-time code from a phone, so a stolen password alone isn't enough to get in.
- Social logins. Let people sign in with an account they already have, like Google, if you want that.
Why not build it yourself?
Login code is a favorite target for attackers, and the safe way to store passwords and reset them changes over time. A dedicated, well-tested tool like Keycloak stays on top of that so your developers can focus on the part of the app that's actually yours.
How we run it
Keycloak is one of the one-click apps in our Apps plan. We run it for you in a container (a tidy box that holds a program and everything it needs), kept monitored, backed up, and redundant across two cities. You get a working login system without installing or babysitting it.
See Keycloak and the full app list on our services page.
